Bright Pink

1 of 8 U.S. women will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of their lifetime. Until recently, I thought that my chances were less likely because there isn't a history of breast cancer in my family. However, about 85% of breast cancer occurs in women who have no family history of breast cancer.

On July 22, 2019, my friend Brooke Clay Taylor's life changed. The day that her husband, Damon and her welcomed their brand new baby girl into the world it was confirmed that Brooke had breast cancer.

Seven days after Elsie was born Brooke received her first dose of radiation. This also meant that Brooke had to isolate herself from Elsie for 24 hours. Elsie relied on Brook for for 28 weeks, and now Brook was now that the thing that could harm her the most. Since that first treatment Brooke has continued to undergo radiation, chemotherapy and a few unplanned surgeries. Yet, Brooke plans to conquer this disease and is living the motto #kbyecancer.

Brooke is an incredibly talented creative producer. She is self employed and has spent the past 2.5 years growing her business under the name Rural Gone Urban. Obviously, this hurdle has meant that Brooke hasn't been able to work or take on clients.

This is where you come into play. There are four things you can do to support Brooke and her mission of ensuring other women take control of their own health.

  1. Take the Bright Pink Quiz. This will help you determine what your risk factors are and help you start a conversation with your doctor.
  2. Donate to Brooke's Go Fund Me. Currently, Brooke has to drive over an hour and a half to Tulsa for her treatment, and as mentioned she has had to put her business on the back burner.
  3. Purchase a bracelet or lipstick from my Bright Pink Boutique. 20% of the proceeds will go to Bright Pink, and 20% will go to Brooke's Go Fund Me.
  4. Sponsor a bracelet or lipstick to be given to a women fighting breast cancer, plus a donation will be made to Bright Pink and Brooke. Send $29 to to sponsor.
