This kind of animal abuse is not the norm, it needs to STOP

Enough.

I started to write this post early this morning, and I really didn't know what to say. I know shocking. For those of you that haven't heard yet, an awful video of animal abuse on a dairy farm in Ohio was release by Mercy for Animals (another one of those shock and awe animal rights group). The video was awful. I mean really, really bad, I couldn't even watch all of it.

I can't believe there are people in this world that could treat animals with so little disrespect. This criminal (he's in custody) that committed these awful acts is the one bad apple that has ruined the whole apple cart. He in my mind doesn't deserve to be called a farmer, he is some lunatic of an employee that doesn't have a heart or soul. Farmers and ranchers are people that put their animals care above their own. That is why my parents taught me, and I am the norm in agriculture.

If you have friends, family, coworkers or community members that are taking about this event, I would encourage you to keep the lines of communication open. Encourage them not to judge our industries based on abnormal instances, instead encourage them to talk to farmers and ranchers, or visit their farms to learn more about how their food is produced.

Here are a couple good articles that communicate exactly what I am thinking.

  3. Ok so I didn't watch it, just read their little blurb on it...

"Compassionate consumers can end their direct financial support of farmed animal abuse by rejecting dairy, and other animal products, and adopting a vegan diet."

Excuse me?! Why don't we focus on STOPPING the cruelty instead of all becoming vegan?? I mean if everyone becomes vegan there's still going to be animals around to abuse, that's not going to stop. Sorta like the saying "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have gun"

  4. Thank you for posting the link. I hadn't made time to watch it until now, and it broke my heart. To me, it's clear that the man featured is a terrible, ruthless person who would abuse any being to make himself feel powerful. But sadly he has chosen the livestock he is in care of.

Certainly I don't wish him to show that kind of violence to a human, but if he did wouldn't the outcry be for his arrest rather than support for a group that knew about the crime and did nothing to stop it?

The organizations that are making a cash grab off of shockingly brutal videos should be held accountable for not intervening. It is essentially like witnessing an automobile accident and driving away. Not legal.

  5. I am crying right now. I know noone that would do that to our cattle. How could you? And, what makes me the most upset is.... if the person with the camera is undercover and cares about animals, why not stop it? B/c then they wouldn't have the shock value. And, when did they film this? Come out with it two seconds after you film it, go to the boss, get those scumbags fired!!!
