My FarmHer Wardrobe

Not everyday does a camera crew show up at your house to put you, your husband and your cows on T.V. But, last September our family was honored to welcome Marji and the Farmher T.V. crew to our farm so I could share a little bit of my agriculture story. I may not be your typical farm girl, but that is the fun part - there isn't such a thing as a typical farm girl anymore. I wear make-up to the barn and Sperry's on my feet. If you ran into me off the farm you might not think I even look like a farmer or farmHER. I love breaking the stereotype that farms aren't just a men running around in overalls anymore.

Since, my episode focused on how I love to combine cows, make-up and fashion I thought I would share a few of the things you may have seen in the show.

1. FarmHer Rodeo Girl T-Shirt - I love Farmher's apparel. Their T-Shirts are super soft and they have a huge Black Friday sale going on right now.

2. 3/4 Zip Thermal - When I am headed to the barn I am always in a hoodie or a 3/4 zip. I of course love this turquoise one.

3. Clinique Super City Block - This is one of my favorite make-up products. It has the perfect amount of tint to it and has a really high SPF, which is perfect when I am working outside.

4. Keep Collective Farmher bracelet - Of course I am a big fan of my Keep Collective bracelet and I love this one that I customized with #farmher. I wear the Mrs charm and two hearts for my husband and I and the arrow to remind me to move forward towards my goals. If you need help putting your own bracelet together let me know!

5. Sperry Boat Shoes - These are my go to barn shoes. They do not look this clean any more though! I actually love to buy my Sperry's off Poshmark because they are gently used and so much cheaper.

6. Keep Collective Earrings - I figure if I have to be in the barn I mind as well wear a little sparkle. I love these little pave disc earrings.

If you missed the Friday night episode on RFD-TV you can catch the show on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. CST, Sundays at 10:00 a.m. CST and Wednesdays at 7:30 a.m. CST.  Also, don't forget to check out the the FarmHer Crystal Cattle Beauty Swap

Crystal Cattle FarmHer Beauty Swap

Are you a make-up junkie? Have a draw full of beauty products? Love getting product suggestions from friends? Well you are in the right place. On Friday, November 25 I am going to making my debut on the FarmHer TV series on RFD-TV. Not only will you get to see our cows, but I share a few of my favorite beauty products as well. If you want to watch be sure to tune in at 8:30 PM CST to RFD-TV. To celebrate the show Marji, the creator of the FarmHer movement and I are co-hosting one of my Crystal Cattle Beauty Swaps.

So how does a Beauty Swap work? Once you have signed up (link) we’ll pair you with another beauty loving blogger (or someone that enjoys Twitter or Instagram). You’ll have a little bit of time to get to know your new social media friend, and then you’ll send each other a gift of beauty products. Sign up for the Beauty Swap will take place Nov. 24-Dec. 2 and is limited to the first 80 people.

By Dec. 4 you’ll receive the name of your partner. Get to know your partner and then be sure to get your package in the mail by December 12. It is really important to follow these deadlines as we have had a few Beauty Swappers send their packages off and get nothing in return :(

Once you have received your box start testing out your new beauty product. We'll host a link up on December 28. Feel free to link up and read all about everyone else's find. Here are link ups from Beauty Swap I, Beauty Swap II, Beauty Swap III, Beauty Swap IV! You don't have to have a blog to participate, but we do ask that you have a social media way to communicate and join in on the fun. Use the hashtag #ccbeautyswap on Twitter or Instagram. Below is a list of a few rules and guidelines. We ask that you try and stick to the rules as closely as possible.

1. Follow the Crystal Cattle and Farmher blogs and Facebook pages.
2. Email your partner within 72 hours of receiving your match. If you haven’t heard from your match after three days are up, let Crystal know and we’ll try and pair you with someone else.
3. Be sure to ask your partner questions about their likes and disklikes, skin tone, preferred colors, etc. or maybe they want to be surprised!
4. Each box should contain a min. of $20 worth of product. Please include one full size item. You may also include samples of products with your one full size item.
5. Items must be new, unless you’ve discussed this with your partner. (Perhaps she loves purple nail polish and you have bottle you know you won’t use anymore.)
6. Packages must be shipped by December 12. If possible it is a good idea to get a tracking number incase something gets lost.
7. Once you receive your package create a post revealing what you received and link up with us on December 28. If you don't have a blog, sign up for the FarmHer Online Community and get your own profile, including a mini blog that filters into the main FarmHer page.

5 Beauty Products That Should Be on Your Christmas Wish List

If your family is like mine they are already hounding you for a Christmas Wish List. At least I know I made the nice list! I feel like we just got done with harvest and now we are trying to catch up on cattle stuff. Cattle stuff on the farm means fencing, hauling hay and straw, and if you follow me on Snap Chat (crystalcattle) you have been a lot of cow beauty parlor snaps and videos. Yes, we wash our cows. Be there is nothing wrong with being fabulous on the farm or the city for that matter. So add these five beauty items to your wish list and thank me later.

Klorane Dry Shampoo: This is still my favorite dry shampoo. After spending a morning in the barn with your hair under a hat or a toque (that is what Canadians call a stocking hat) your hair can be kind of a sweaty mess. This stuff brings your hair back to life and give it is great volume. I’ll even use this some on clean hair to get a little extra volume.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara: I usually don't get too excited about mascara. They never seem to deliver on all their promises. However, this mascara I got as a sample from Sephora and I LOVE it. In a couple swipes I can get super black eyelashes with volume. If you really work a few coats in your lashes are like BAM! You know for those fancy nights out on the town or when I really want to impress the heifers.

Kat Von D Ink Liner: I have not mastered the winged eyeliner look, but I still love this liquid eyeliner for that good ole follow the shape of you eyelid eyeliner look. It is super black, easy to apply and stays put.

Burberry Lip Velvet Lipstick: I was lucky enough to go to a conference in New York City in October and that meant I had to stop at the Sephora on Times Square. It was HUGE and amazing. I love this Burberry Lipstick that I picked up there. The saying power is incredible, but it also one of the creamiest lipsticks I have. The color I am wearing is Deep Burgundy, the darkest color they make, but I want to try some lighter shades.

The Beauty Blender: I have been using the Beauty Blender for about a year now and it is awesome. I’ve used it successfully with two different foundation formulas NARS Sheer Glow Foundation (very liquidy) and NARS Velvet Matt Skin Tint Broad Spectrum (still a liquid but creamier). I also like to dip it into my setting powder and using it for cream blushes. The key is to get is really wet and then squeeze the excess water out. You can buy the Beauty Blender bar soap to clean it, but honestly that bar soap you get in hotels works awesome. So "real" beauty blogger is probably rolling over in her grave.

p.s. For those that have been waiting for a Beauty Swap. Stay tuned. I'll have all the details later this week to celebrate me making a TV debut on the FarmHer television show on RFD-TV. Yes you can see all of our cows and get more beauty tips on the show airing at 8:30 PM CST.

I'm Addicted to Noosa

If you have been following my social media for the past few weeks you'll notice a trend... I can't get enough of Noosa yoghurt aka the most amazing food in the world next to beef (I'm a cattle woman I've got to stick it steak at the stop of the list). And now all my friends have been sending me how much they heart Noosa.

New life goals: get as many people as possible addicted, drive us milk prices to help dairy farmers and become a Noosa spokesperson.

Noosa is an Australian style yoghurt. I'm not much of a yoghurt person but I had heard some other people sing its rave reviews. When our local grocery store started carrying it I decided to give it a shot. Raspberry and Key Lime were first on the list. OMG it was amazing.

Since that time I have tried pumpkin, Bhakti chai (it tastes like chai tea/a spiced muffin), lemon (kind of tart like lemon meringue), mango, key lime (description below) and blackberry serrano (description below) and there hasn't been a flavor that hasn't been amazing. Noosa isn't like Greek Yogurt it isn't so sour. It is also really creamy, kind of like pudding.

I also describe it as fresh tasting. The flavors, whether fruity or savory, aren't artificial tasting at at. It literally has pumpkin puree in the pumpkin flavor.

Yes, it did.
Other things that you should know, since I have become a Noosa expert.

It is made in Colorado. The milk comes from a dairy farm ran by a fourth generation dairy farmer. Pretty cool, hun?

There are 23 flavors. Key Lime is probably my favor flavor so far. It tastes just like cheesecake. The Blackberry Serano is the bomb too. I want to try blueberry, peach, blood orange, salted caramel and vanilla.

Spicy yoghurt? Yeah, I was skeptical but Blackberry Seranno is so good. Just enough kick, but the yoghurt keeps it cool and creamy. It reminds me of the jalapeƱo jelly that you put over cream cheese.

So far I have found that Target's have the best selection, but Noosa has a form on their website that you can fill out to request that the manager carries other flavors. I'm going to just put ALL on mine.

Rose Gold Fall Trend Alert

After what seemed like way too many days of scorching, humid, I thought I was melting days at the Iowa State Fair all I can seem to think about is cool Fall weather. And with Fall comes Fall fashion. I have seen so much rose gold lately that I couldn't wait to share a few of may favorite pieces.

You'll love how versatile rose gold is. It looks great on all skin tones, and I love that it can be mixed with my current silver and gold pieces.

1. Rose Gold Swell Bottle: One of my friends sent me a purple Swell bottle this summer and I love it. It keeps cold drinks cold for 24 hours and warm drinks (aka my Chai tea) warm for 12 hours.

2. Keep Collective Keys: The new fall line of keys (charms) has all kinds of rose gold goodness. I love the crown, pyramid stone bar and this little tassel. You'll see below the rose gold arm party I was wearing at State Fair.

3. & 6. Kendra Scott Arrowhead Earrings: Someone one needs to lockdown my bank account because the new Kendra Scott fall line is on target. I LOVE these rose gold and granite earring and these smaller rose gold arrowhead studs are gorgeous.

4. Deborah Lippmann Nail Polish: I received some of this nail polish in a different color in a past Beauty Swap and I loved it staying power. This rose gold color is going to be perfect for fall.

5. Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette: I've had my make up done at the Sephora Beauty Counter a couple times this summer (thanks VIB status). The first time was with my mom and grandma and the make up artist used an Hourglass palette for their eyes, and the second time my eyes were done with one. I don't know if I have ever felt an eyeshadow that felt so velvety, plus the staying power was awesome.

This was my Keep Collective arm party this weekend at the State Fair. I love the new engravable options and the #farmher is the perfect way to describe my life.

So, what do you think? Will you be adding rose gold to your wardrobe or jewelry box this fall. Any other trends that you are seeing that we should keep our eyes out for?

I've Never Thought I Can Do Anything A Man Can Do

I found the line that sums it all up. I'm reading Find Your Extraordinary by Jessica Herrin, and even though I've only completed one chapter I love it. Jessica makes it quite clear that this isn't a book about gender equality. It is a book about finding success on your own terms.

I've heard gender equality talked about as an obstacle quite often, especially in this election cycle. But, it isn't something that Jessica focuses, and I when I sit and think about it gender isn't something I that I focus on either. And she has given me the quote that sums up all the thoughts I have had about me and men.
"I have never thought I can do anything a man can do--I have just always thought I can do anything." - Jessica Herrin

Can I get an AMEN! I grew up surrounded by farming and ranching. In those world's a lot would say it is a man's world. Not me. Maybe it is the way my mom and dad raised my sister and I but I have never once thought to myself I can't do that because I am not a man.

"I can't drive the tractor because I am not a man. I can't lift up that hay bale because I don't have the strengthen of a man." Instead I figured out how to recruit my sister into coming and helping me so we could get the job done together. I love driving the skid steer to clean the cattle pens (it isn't the most glamorous job, but it is fun!) I usually get the skid steer stuck or stalled at some point and the Boy comes and helps me, but that didn't happen because I am a woman. It happened because I probably got a little excited and made the wrong move. He got the tractor stuck big time this past weekend and that didn't happen because of his sex.

In my off the farm career I work along side men and woman and I never think "Well I better handle that because that is a woman's job or what will he think if I speak up." I just do it. I do the job because I truly believe I can do anything, and I take this mentality from boardroom to pasture.

That's ultimate equality right? Knowing you can do anything. And then also knowing that there are people around you, both men and women, that can help you out.

This is the first week of our book discussion. If you want to join our Find Your Extraordinary Book Discussion group come on in.

Find Your Extraordinary Book Discussion

Last month I had the opportunity to stand in front of a real boss babe. You know the kind that has built multiple businesses from the ground up, tries to find that balance between success and happiness and finds time for her family and herself. Yeah I want to be like that girl.

Her name is Jessica Herrin CEO of the Stella & Dot Family of Brands. She has been featured on Oprah, the Today Show, and Undercover Boss, in Fortune, the NY Times, USA Today, the Wall Street Journal, and was included on Inc.'s list of top 10 Female CEOs.

After graduating from Stanford University with a B.A. in Economics, Jessica joined two successful tech startups before heading back to the Stanford Graduate School of Business. At the ripe age of 24, she dropped out of business school to co-found the leading wedding site, WeddingChannel.com aka the Knot.

I've been patiently waiting for her new book Find Your Extraordinary to come out, and it is finally here. My copy ships tomorrow and I can't wait to dive in. But I've been thinking wouldn't it be more fun to get inspired together? I mean I feel like Taylor Swift shouldn't be the only one with her own girl gang. So I am inviting you to the Find Your Extraordinary Book Discussion Group, and invite a girlfriend while you are there.

We'll start reading on May 12 so lots of time to pick up the book from Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble. Use coupon code BNLOVEMOM at Barnes and Noble through 5/3/16 and receive 20% off your book. Then join the group and you'll be set. And you never know, if this goes well maybe we'll pick up another book afterwards.

Mother's Day Gifts for Foodie Moms

Mother's Day is right around the corner and although I am not a mom myself, I know my mom always loves to receive a new kitchen gadget or something that connects her to her food. As farmers we are lucky to not only raise the beef that our family gets to consume, but our beef also enters the food chain so that families around the country have the possibility of enjoying it.

1. Krista of The Farmer's Wifee loves Vintage Pyrex! However, if you aren't the flee market scouting, antique hunting kind of girl don't worry because Pyrex brought back their vintage designs in their new Vintage Charm Rise Shine Mixing Bowl Set. You can also find individual pieces at Target.com. Plus, they are turquoise!
2. Cristen of Food and Swine is the ultimate combination of pig farmer and foodie. Cristen loves the Themapen Mk4 Thermometer. It features instant temperature read outs. The fact that is is waterproof sold me because have the time ours get left our by the Traeger. Cristen is also a snap-chatting fool. I love getting to see inside their family's pig barns. Baby pigs are adorable.
3. Bekah Gutafson of Cooped Up Creativity and I both love this next gadget. This food chopper for onions from Pampered Chef is awesome. My mother-in-law bought on for me after loving hers so much. No more tears!

4. Does your foodie mom also love photography? They you are going to want to order this gorgeous coffee table book full of photographs featuring farmers and ranchers that raise our food. I was lucky enough to receive a signed copy by author/photographer Scott Stebner. Plus, proceeds go toward scholarships to support agricultural communications and journalism students.

5. Jennifer of the Farmwife Feeds loves her buffet style triple slow cooker. How nice would this be fun entertaining or when you have a bunch of hungry kiddo mouths to feed. She also shared a great recipe for Creamy Crockpot Mac and Cheese

What am I missing off the list? Maybe a home cooked meal would be the perfect treat for mom. I hope all the moms out there have a fantastic Mother's Day!

5 Beauty Tips for a Beach Vacation

If you've been following me on Instagram you might have read my chatter about going to Mexico! I was fortunate enough to earn my Glam Getaway through Keep Collective. I can't wait to hit the beach  for a few days, but I also know that this blonde headed, fair skinned girl gets red way faster than tan. So in preparation for my trip I have put together some of my favorite beauty products and tips for beach vacations.

1. Obviously, sunscreen is a must. I've kind of bounced around from brand to brand but last year on a trip to Hawaii I tried Sun Bum and loved it. It dried quick and didn't make my skin feel greasy. Regardless of which sunscreen you choose I HIGHLY recommend it buying it home and brining it with you. Resorts jack the price of sunscreen way up because they know they can get you.

2. I am little more selective about sunscreen on my face because I don't need a massive breakout on vacation. For years I have used Clinique Super City Block SPF 40. It has a bit of tint to it, and works awesome alone or underneath a BB Cream or foundation. I've talked to the Sephora experts a lot about sun care and here are two recommendations from them

  • Your foundation, moisturizer, make-up, etc might have an SPF of blah it won't be effective all day so you need to continue to reapply throughout the day.
  • When applying your beauty products you should apply your moisturizer first, then sunscreen, then printer, and then your foundation.
3. Fake that glow. I have three favorite products for faking a tan.

  • My good old standby is Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer. If I actually remember to use this everyday it really does build a nice tan for me. Just remember to wash you hands really well after each use.
  • Last year I started using the Clairins Radiance-Plus Golden Glow Booster. You put a few drops in your facial moisturizer or foundation and it help build that gradual glow. Love the stuff, and a bottle last a REALLY long time.
  • I've tried a lot of the aerosol spray tans and the one I have fallen in love with is A Bliss Tan for All Seasons. This stuff is pretty fool proof and gives me a nice bronzed look. It is best to spray it on in the shower because it does kind of get everywhere. It take a few hours for the color to develop fully so I like to do this the day before a big event.
4.  Keeping make-up minimal. I'm not too proud to admit it. I like to through a little make-up on before I head to the pool. On this trip I am trying a few new products including Anastasia Dipbrow, Make-Up Forever HD Blush in Fawn (I'm loving this stuff), and Kat Von D Tattoo Liner to keep me looking pulled together. I'll report back after the trip.

5. Carry it on or check a bag? So far I've been to Punta Cana and Hawaii twice and I have still never just made it without checking a bag. One thing I always make sure I do when checking my bags is a bring a small carryon with a swimsuit, hat and sunscreen in it. That way if my luggage is delayed, we can't check into our room yet, etc. I still will have everything I need to get on the beach ASAP.

What are your favorite beach products. Anything I need to rush out and purchase ASAP? I wish I could find a good lipstick or gloss with SPF.

Easy, Reusable Easter Baskets

Who looked at the calendar this past week and went, "Holy cow, Easter is early!" If you are sitting there thinking 1. Where in the world are our Easter baskets and 2. What am I going to put in the dang things? I've got answers!

Keep Collective just released their new pouches and mine is already getting a ton of use. I can't wait to fill mine full of sunscreen, lipgloss and books to read when I head to Mexico in April. My iPad also fits in it perfectly, so it will make the perfect protective pouch when I head to Houston in a couple weeks for a business trip. And finally with Easter around the corner it will make the ideal Easter basket that can be reused over and over again.

I also love that I can pick any of Keep Collective's keys (charms) to go on the leather strap and personalize the pouch in seconds. Plus, in addition to the navy option there is also a hot pink bottomed pouch.

If you love fun notebooks than Target is the perfect place to do your Easter basket shopping. Cadbury Mini Eggs are my absolute favorite treat! It takes major will power for me to not eat an entire bag. The hope, faith and love charms on the pouch are perfect for Easter.

Next, for those younger Easter lovers I had to add the Little Blue Truck to the basket. I bought this book for my nephew and since he's 15 months old I've declared it is his favorite. Plus, an iTunes gift card will be perfect for downloading his favorite cartoon or game. I love the KIND key because all the proceeds go to the KIND Campaign that provide resources to stop bullying.

Finally, show a little sports pride with this next pouch. Keep Collective has all kinds of keys to represent your or your kids' favorite sports. I am a huge fan of EOS lip balm. You can find it in pretty much any Walmart or Target check out lane, or at Ulta Beauty stores. I also love these markers. I am a big fan of fine tip Sharpies, but they were bleeding through my Erin Condren planner. These markers are the Staedtler brand and I found them at Target.

If you need the perfect Easter basket I would love to help you with your Keep Collective purchase. All orders placed by midnight on Monday, March 21 will arrive in time for Easter.

TurquoiseThursday: Drooling Over Anthropologie Furniture

Why does Anthropologie have to send gorgeous catalogs to my house. I'll be honest... I usually am not crazy about Anthropologie's clothes as a whole. However, their home pieces are a completely different story especially when turquoise is a favorite color palette of theirs.

And these four pieces are particularly gorgeous! If they combination of all four pieces weren't over $8,000 then I would have immediately went out and purchased all of them.

1. Premium Leather Olivette Sofa - I've alway been a sucker for a tufted leather sofa. I am just going to keep telling myself that it is probably really uncomfortable.
2. Lacquered Mirror - This mirror comes in three sizes and I love the turquoise lacquered color.
3. Tamsin Dinning Chair - I love the subtle color of this chair and think it would give any room the perfect pop of color.
4. Lacquered Wellington Dresser - They are also several other pieces of in this Wellington collection.

So now that we've all come down off our turquoise high let's make a pack. Since all of these pieces are pretty much ridiculously expensive let's all keep an eye out for equally as gorgeous, but much less expensive pieces and notify the group as soon as you find something! Deal?

Eight Tips for Your Wedding Registry

It is hard to believe that the Boy and I are approaching our fourth wedding anniversary. Say what?!? The year that we got, and the follow year it seems like all we did was go to weddings. We did something like six weddings in one summer, then there has been a lull and now the next wave of friends getting married has begun.

Everyone will tell you picking out what you put on your registry is one of the best parts of wedding planning, and they are right! But, it can be hard to decide what are the items that you want to remain in your home for the rest of your life. So, after using our registry items for almost four years here is a little advice.

1. Get way more flatware than you think you'll need. Why? Because I think forks and knives have a missing sock club and will disappear, and then your flatware will be discontinued and you'll be stuck trying to find something similar.

2. It is worth registering for nice pots and pans. Yes, these items can be expensive, but we found that the most expensive items on our registry were purchased first. Often guests want to go together and make a purchase therefor they purchase those larger ticket items. I was thrown a Pampered Shower shower and we purchased a lot of our kitchen ware through the party with our hostess credits. p.s. The Pampered Chef stuff is amazing.

3. Get a Kitchen-Aid. They are bomb and I use mine all the time. Even if you aren't a big baker they are great for dips and shredding meat. We also received a lot of the attachments, but honestly we haven't used them much.

4. It is worth registering for serving ware. Even if at this point in your life you aren't hosting Thanksgiving or big dinners at your house one day you will. It will save you a lot of money not having to run out to buy serving platters, bowls for mash potatoes, serving utensils.

5. However, we didn't register for China. Instead we went with a neutral white dinner plate from Pottery Barn, and then we also got a setting of bright turquoise plates. The white is nice because it goes with everything and every holiday, but we have the option of throwing a little color in there.

6. You will always use nice storage containers. We received some glass Pyrex and Pampered Chef containers and they are fantastic. Of course I use my share number of disposable Gladware pieces, but I love that I can reuse these over and over again.

7. Don't be afraid to register for those off the wall pieces that represent your passions or hobbies. We actually asked for a liquid nitrogen tank that stores semen. They are quite expensive, but something we knew we would really need for our farm. A group of our cattle friends went together to buy it for us and it is a great reminder of them.

8. Make sure you put enough stuff on your registry. I have talked to so many of my girlfriends that tell me, well we really don't need that much stuff or we are hoping to just get gift cards. There are going to be a lot of people that want to buy you a tangible gift, and if you run out of things on your registry they are going to by you something they "think" you will want. That is when you end up with stuff. Continue to check back and see how many items are left and if items have been discontinued, and don't be afraid to add more.

We Are Having Babies

Not me. The cows. Yes, it is calving season on the farm. Typically beef farmers and ranchers try to calve their cows in the least amount of days as possible. This is because when they wean the calves from their moms, and breed the heifers the following year, they want them to be as consistent in weight and age as possible. But our farm is a little different.

Remember our farm raises purebred cattle. Now there are LOTS of "purebred farms" that follow the same calving philosophy that I posted above, but not us. Since we sell quite a few of our calves to be show heifers (youth exhibitor them at shows throughout the year) people want them to fall into certain age "divisions." When heifers are shown they are broken up into classes by age. So the Januarys show together, the Marchs, the Aprils, etc. When a family comes to our house to buy cattle they like that they can buy heifers of different ages so their kids don't have to show against each other in class. Therefor we calve a few cows in January and February and then the rest will come in March and April.

Above is the first heifer (girl) calf we had born this year. I love the babies when they are first born because their moms haven't taught them yet that you should run away from people! 90% of calves aren't going to let you get too close after the first day of their life.

And this is Wall Street. He was born the beginning of January. This was right after he was born. He's got a good mom and she was able to give birth to him with no help from us.

Make sure you follow me on Instagram at @CrystalCattle to see lots more pictures. Also, #calfwatch16 is a good hashtag to follow if you love baby calf pictures.
