Just me and my MAC make-up on the Prairie

Hello UPS man

Well, it has been two months since I have moved to Iowa, and I would say I am adjusting well. Although, the Boy would say I travel so much I am never here. I think my clothes and mail like the place.

My first online MAC purchase
Until the recent move I had spent almost eight years living in town (time in college and then my first big kid job). I absolutely love living back on the farm now, but I'll admit I had gotten comfortable with my life in the city. There was lots of shopping and dining options in my towns and Kansas City was 40 minutes away. Definitely close enough to fulfill my love of shopping and MAC make-up.

However, on the prairie (it's really not that bad I live outside a town with 6,000 people) there is no MAC insight. You see Iowans must not have discovered the wonderful line of MAC make-up. The one and only store in the state is almost three hours away.

I kind of had a panic attack last week when I realize there was only a drop of my NC15 foundation left in the bottle. Hello, online shopping and thank goodness MAC frequently has free shipping. What would use prairie girls do without the Internet?

Yes, the locals might not know me yet, but the UPS and FedEx guys sure do. Between work mail, online Christmas shopping and MAC make-up delivers they know our home well.

My mom and sister bought me this awesome MAC brush case for Christmas! Clean brushes make me so happy. Yes, I am a nerd.

  1. I feel your pain! I miss Ulta and Sephora being right down the road from my home. Thank goodness for online shopping :)

  2. Oh Wow, I totally remember 3 years ago when I moved to South Dakota I ran out of the last of my Mac, and never replaced it. I was reintroduced to being beautiful at my best friend's Florida wedding and the first thing I did when I got to Indiana was send my Mom to Mac with a list of what to get me! Never again will I go without! :)

  3. I love this post! I had a similar "revelation" upon moving to West Texas 2 years ago!! I completely know where you are coming from. I'm so glad I'm not alone!! The biggest thing I miss about an urban life is a kick butt grocery store, but that's just my inner foodie coming out :)

  4. Crystal thank you for filling me on the things I must prepare for when I move to Iowa this summer. I am also a huge MAC fan, so I better be prepared for some online shopping as well.

  5. Lucky you. I cannot live without my cheek blushing gel and I need a department store with an Origins counter. A department store! In the country! or else i have to pay for shipping for a 2 oz tube. Ugh!

  6. Haha in the 4 months since I have moved back to my hometown I have had many packages arrive on my doorstep. I miss Sephora, Nordstrom and Target most of all! Although a 2 hour drive to the city isn't that far, I'm often too busy to run up there for one or two little things. Internet to the rescue!

  7. I just moved to my fiancé’s ranch near a town of 200. I’m lucky to be able to work from home now, but that requires a lot of work travel. I try to stock-up on my department store essentials when I’m traveling, but I’ve lately become a seasoned pro for online coupon codes. Between work and personal things, my UPS, FedEx and USPS men know me pretty well!

  8. So glad to see your MAC makeup arrived! That is the only bad thing about rural life…no mall! However I might enjoy online shopping even more!

  12. That is funny... I'm in the country but I'm lucky that an amazing mall is just a half an hour away... I too would be getting very familiar with my delivery guys as well
